December Day1
Yes, I know the first was yesterday but honestly, do you expect me to be that organized?? First one thing I loooove about December, the dark. I generally don't like the dark but just the feeling when you wake up and it is dark out, you just know that Christmas is on its way. I had to take a picture of my backyard today at 8:30 am Yesterday we started our activites to lead us up to Christmas. I don't have a lot of shopping to do in December so I tend to focus on the kids more. So, we started the Santa Advent Calendars. When Waneeke and Koivu got home from school they coloured their Santas and we got to put ONE cotton ball on. Waneeke did a great job colouring and gluing, Koivu somehow ended up gluing his homework to his Santa, yes, Chez did put her cotton ball on Day 8, but who's counting? And I'm not exactly sure what RD did to his, but crayons did not work for that 11 month old.
Tattle Tale
This morning Waneeke woke up and wanted to know the numbers to push so that she could call Grandma. I asked which Grandma and she pointed her finger in the direction of my Mom. It wasn't even 8am yet and so I put her off for now. She asked again in the afternoon and I put her off again, until I was able to talk too. Shortly before supper we gave her a call. When Waneeke got on the phone, I was listening to her conversation, while feeding the baby. This is what I heard. I told Mom that I wanted a hang-glider, and she said, "No." I told Mom that I wanted a scooter, and she said, "No." I told Mom that I wanted a lion, and she said, "No." It is at the store, she got groceries instead. When I got the phone back my Mom was quite amused that I was just told on.
Koivu's first day
It was Koivu's first day of school was today. We got his shoes changed, his jacket off, his bag hung up, and he was off. He barely had time to say good bye to me. I'm so glad he was happy to go. When I picked him up, he was sitting nicely at his spot waiting for me. He was just as happy to come home as he was to go to school. That was also nice. They made a little certificate about having a good day at Pre-k. I really like the school he is in now, but in the nearish future he will be changing schools to go to the one that Waneeke is going to. He'll be happy because he can take the bus.
The Wish List
Honestly. I mean really. Does this have to start already? I get that W's birthday is only a couple of months away but does she really need to start putting things on her wish list already? Last week I was putting the baby to sleep and she came up to me and asked me for a triangle that has handles and can fly. I thought it was her kite and told her where it was. No, no, Mom. Off she went to draw a picture of what she was talking about. This picture came back, it had a top view of a triangle, a side view of the handle bars. Yes, she wanted a hang glider. She decided that with her blueprints(my word, not hers) that we could build her a hang glider and then she could fly to school. It would work with a hang glider, school isn't that far away, she assured me. After about a week of her asking us for a hang glider, she has given up and has decided to put it on her wish list.
Back at it
So I decided to do this again. I don't know, I like talking about my kids but then, sometimes all I do is talk about my kids. W starts back to school tomorrow. Really, this is her first day of kindergarten. Last year she was in pre-k in an actual school, so the school setting isn't new for her but riding the bus, walking around to the back outside doors to go in, staying all day, this is all new for her. Today we have a few more things to pick up off of her school list. Really, I have already purchased everything but some of it was too tempting to keep their hands off of so we have to go repurchase.
Good morning and welcome to Three.
It's Koivu's turn. My little man turns three today. He is so different from his sisters. He is as sweet as can be but has a temper on him like you would not believe. He will come up to you, crawl into your lap and just hug you, or get cuddled. If you upset him though, be warned, he will toss himself to the ground, with little to no warning. I bought him his present when it was warmer out, not realizing that we were going to get kicked in the butt with winter again. His present is a Diego slip and slide. I'm excited for him to get it, but disappointed that he won't be able to use it right away. We also got an Easter Egg cake for him. It is really quite cute.
She's One
Yes, my baby girl is one today. This past year with her has been so crazy. She had the worst colic for her first 4 months and then I found out she wasn't going to be an easy teether. She started rolling at 2 months (I have a great scrapbook layout of this), crawling at 4 months, sitting up at 4 months, standing at 6 and walking at 9. I am just amazed by her. I can't get over such a huge personality in such a tiny little body. She has a great way of getting her big brother, she just knows how to push his buttons. She plays with her big sister like there isn't a 3 year age gap. She just recently came out with her first "word" which really isn't one word. She was running around the living room after Caramel. She stuck her head behind the couch and said, "heeeeere Kitty". Since then it has become a great game. If anyone in the house says it, you will hear Chez say it shortly afterwards. I hope she keeps me running as much next year as she has this past year.
One step, One trip to the ER
Chez took a step today. She was just standing there clapping and giggling and took one step. The look of shock on her face was great. Later this evening when I was trying to eat my supper, she started crying. Koivu was in the bathroom, she was outside of the bathroom. It didn't take me long to realize he had closed her hand in the door. I scooped her up. El came running. We both took one look at her squished little hand and off I went to the ER. By the time we found the hospital she has stopped crying and was almost asleep. I took her in anyway. She had xrays and everything was fine. She ended up with some polysporin and advil and sent on our way. In four years of being a mom, this was my first ever trip to the ER.
Pee in the Potty
It seems that we can get water on the floor of our bathroom so quickly. At first I thought it was the swimming lessons that Waneeke seems to be giving herself. You know with the kicking, the splashing, the general making a disaster area of the bathroom. El was getting out of the shower and as usual he opens the door in case there are any immediate needs to be met. Waneeke looked at the bathroom and came running to me. Mom, look, Daddy peed the floor. I almost died. She then proceeded to walk up to El and say, "Daddy, you pee in the potty, not on the floor." That's it I lost it. My girl is too funny.
The Sun is Going Down
Waneeke looked out of one of the picture windows today and said, "Ew, gross, yucky dog poop." Yup honey, tell your dad to get on that will you? Later she looks out the window and says, "On no Mom, the sun is going down." And then she runs to her room, gets dressed in 30 seconds or less and heads off to find her ski pants. I guess she has figured out that once the sun goes down, she can't go out and play. We sort of tag team watching them play and at one point she was being pulled along the ice/snow by Curly. He had her mitten in his mouth and they were just going. I love that they can go out like this. I felt really bad last year when I was working and too tired to take them out of the house. I think there were a few weeks when they only had inside to play. This is much nicer.
You Brush your Teeth ch ch ch ch, ch ch ch ch
Does anyone remember that Raffi song about brushing your teeth? http://www.songsforteaching.com/folk/brushyourteethchant.htmThis is the newest, latest, greatest thing around here. Santa brought Waneeke, Koivu and Chez all toothbrushes for Christmas, with toothpaste. Oh my goodness, toothpaste can you believe it? All day long I hear, Mom I'm going to brush my teeth and then whirrrrr of the toothbrush. The facination is outstanding. Koivu loves his spiderman toothbrush but not so much the mechanical part of it.
What's with the dogs?
Two days after our dog was killed we found a note on our door, a family has lost their dog. I'm going to call tomorrow to see if they have found it yet. Tonight someone else came to our door. His family is in the process of moving from Grande Prairie, AB to Toronto, ON, they went to sleep last night and when they woke up this morning they noticed their 3 dogs were gone. They did find two of them today but they have to leave this province to be on their way. He asked us to be on the look out for Sophia. The kids are pretty broken up over this whole thing. We quite often have food outside for Curly so I'm hoping that may draw her here. We had moved our dog off the highway but we didn't bury him. They found our dog and were actually relieved to know it wasn't their dog. It was a little foot in mouth when they said something and we confirmed it was Mo.
New Year New Memories
I'm up late tonight, because my darling Chez decided tonight was not a good night to sleep, not because of the promise of the New Year as I had hoped. In looking back on 2006 I am very grateful for where we are now. At this time last year I would never have imagined we would be thriving now. I'm looking forward to Febuary when I turn 30. I'm looking forward to March when I can start planting my squash plants inside to go into the garden later. I am looking forward to April. There is going to be one busy week with the 2nd being Chez's first birthday the 5th being Koivu's third birthday and the 6th being Good Friday. I'm looking forward to May and being able to plant my garden. I'm looking forward to June and being able to play outside with the lids more. I'm looking forward to July and going to the beach.......this is going to be a wonderful year. Also I'm playing arounf with my blog (poor Lyndsey) so this could be fun!
